Scotland has a thriving culture infront of the lens and in films, we have actors that have played major roles in international awarded films and films that depict Scottland or have used Scotland as a location for movies.

One of the most famed films would be Braveheart a story about the Scottish people reclaiming their independence against the English set in medieval Scotland, it’s a great film to learn about the rich history and battles of Scotland.

Behind the camera lens Scottish director Kevin Macdonald is one of the brightest talents that has come out of Scotland, making films that have won international recognition, BAFTA and the Academy awards. He made Touching the Void (2003), The Last King of Scotland (2006) and Fish Tank (2009).

There are number of films that have used Scotland beautiful dramatic landscape as a location for filming for a taste of Scotland watch the romantic drama, One day is a memorable film about happiness, failures and tragedies parts of the film is set in Edinburgh city, university and the view of Edinburgh from the extinct volcano Arthurs Seat. Another film showing Scotlands landscape is Skyfall most of the filmed was shot in Scotland showing stunning scenery of the Highlands and the rugged mountain ranges and windy misty roads that can take your breath away.

In front of the lens Scotland has produced some incredibly talented Actors and Actresses some who have gone on to act is major films. Scotland’s most famous actor is Sean Connery, the original James Bond his starred in countless films including Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Other Scottish Actors who have achieved international recognition include Ewan McGregor in Star Wars films, James McAvoy in The Last King of Scotland, Gerard Butler in 300 and Karen Gillan in Blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy.
